Default 03 tranny/tc problem?

afternoon all - have a question about my 2003 f150 auto 4.2L 2wd , if anyone has suggestions/ideas what might be going on it would be much appreciated.

has about 90k miles on it, i do not tow anything and rarely drive it more than an hour at a time. level area that i live. in other words it's never really working that hard. have never had any spots in the driveway, it's never overheated...nothing. good reliable vehicle for what i use it for which is basically getting around my small town and hauling grass cuttings to the local mulch pile. have had zero problems with it until a week ago.

Hopped in for a routine errand, it does it's normal slight rev up after startup, normally does that for 10-20 seconds maybe. i was in a bit of a hurry and put it in reverse while it was still reving up. i mention that because i don't recall if i've ever done that before, thought i'd mention it is as a possible cause/variable.

soon as i'm in reverse and backing out of the driveway i start feeling a shudder, maybe even kind of a slipping. like it has bad gas or something. but i doubt this is the case, it's on about half a tank and was not happening before. slow response, slipping and 'chugging' for lack of a better word. put it in drive and same thing. thought maybe it would go away after warming up but it did not. brought it home and checked all fluids. oil is perfect, transmission fluid is as it should be (color, smell, level, etc).

i let it sit for awhile and try the same routine again but this time it was fine during reverse. did the same thing however in drive but this time 1st gear was ok, only did it in 2nd. go a bit faster down the road, maybe 40-50mph and i give it some mild acceleration and i can feel a knocking through the accelerator peddle/floorboard area. paying more attention to it it seems like it wants to make that knock at shifting...at maybe 1800rpm or so. I just took it out for a drive again and it would do that almost every time at the same rpm from 1st to 2nd at least.

have repeated a few more times and it is sometimes exactly the same. other times it will be in first gear only. then another time it can do it in reverse again.

no engine lights have come on, no overheating. this model has an overdrive on/off button, try that too. try the lower gears as well and they all do the same thing.

any ideas? thanks in advance, i sure do appreciate it!

ok i have a 2003 f150 5.4L. and it has been acting up lately with the tranny. it shifts fine until it starts to shift out of overdrive it usually happens around 2500 rpm but it will drop to about 2200 rpm and stay there for a minute and then drops off to cruisein rpm but the truck shutters. does any one have any idea what could be causeing this if so please tell me.
