The steering gear box on my 4wd F150, 85k, started to weep fluid out of the top of the gear box. I bought a rebuilt unit from O'Reilly, and got the unit back into place. Seemed to be an easy fix...Now I can't get the clamp for the bottom of the steering U joint onto the new gear box. I can get it onto the spline the first 1/2" or so, but won't sit deep enough that I can get the bolt in place and secure it. I don't want to open up the clamp since it seems like a cast part, and I've tried pulling in every direction with no luck. I need to get my shop truck back to work and get this SOB on the road. Any ideas?
