Default 02 5.4l for $300... get it?

I have been looking for a 5.4 to replace my 4.6 for a while now and cant really find any locally that are under $1500. Today I found a 02 5.4 out of an expedition that was removed because it had a knock when accelerating. the guy thought it may have a cracked piston, but was not sure. He was asking 500 but i talked him into 300 since he just wants to sell it. I looked online and found sets of pistons for around 150. Should I go ahead and get this engine and give it a once over? I dont want to spend 1500 on another used engine, nor can i buy a short block. please give me some input.

Thanks All

that would be fine, except the 1100 dollar price tag with shipping. I can rebuild this one with better parts and still only be at maybe the selling price of that.
