Default 02 150 shift question, ( AUTO )

Sorry if this is in wrong topic section. Just need a little help. I have on 02
F150 with the small triton V8, ( 4.6) and 4x4. Recently it was towed after I changed the oil and filter and the oil filter O-Ring ( old one ) did'nt come off, spraying oil everywhere after I put new filter on. Having AAA, the truck was towed to Ford and repaired. This is my question. The tow truck driver unhooked something, I know some type of linkage, auto tranny, that allowed him to pull truck onto flatbed. When I got truck back from Ford, it seems when parking, or putting column shifter into drive, I have to jiggle the shifter to get it into proper position. Is there some adjustment I could make or tighten/loosen, grease that would help the problem. Just want everything to line-up as before it was hooked. Does anyone have a pic of where linkage connects. Is there something I could adjust myself?
On a side note, after 9/11/01 Ford reps came to the precinct/stationhouse where i was a cop and wanted to help. I ordered this truck a certain way because I thought when I retired these were requirements I needed. Ford reps actually called and told me the options I wanted were only available on F-250s. They went on to say as a NYPD favor this truck would be badged a F150 so I could register it in NY as such and drive on Parkways, but it had options only F250s at the time offered. I kinda know some of this is true because Wallyworld and the regular oil change places always say this filter etc etc does not go on this vin# truck. The local shops PC, say this is an F250 ( when I bought tires ) and wouldn't sell me tires unless I wavered warranty. Can post pics of original window sticker, truck if anyone interested. Thanks for your help, charlie

Are you having trouble putting it in the proper gear? Or is the indicator needle just not lining up with what gear you are in? If it is simply the indicator not aligned properly, there is an adjustment under the steering column. The easiest way to find the adjustment is to look up under your dash while moving the shifter, (just remember to block the tires first.) There will be a thin cable that gets pulled when moving the shifter, just tighten/loosten the plastic adjustment at the end of it until it properly aligns. If you arent able to put it in gear, there is linkage adjustments on the driver side towords the front of your tranny.

Default Thanks

Captain thanks for reply. The needle indicator is correct, the real problem after the tow was when I put truck in park, almost have to hold shifter up to remove keys from ignition. Got under truck today real quick and saw where linkage meets tranny. On day off, will have to get under there and spend a few minutes. Today, work is waiting.

Send me a PM with your e-mail and I will send you a PDF file with the procedure for adjusting the shifter cable. On the Vehicle cert label look up the trans code and include it in your PM. How many lug nuts hold your whees on?

I think I'm gonna have to do some adjusing to mine as well. I have to pull the shifter up to get it to start sometimes. Hopefully its nothing thats gonna be too much of a pain to deal with.
