Default 01 5.4 Timing

Hey guys, I am looking for some advice. Problem start about a month ago with some sputtering and not wanting to idel for about 10 minutes at a time. Let the truck sit for about 4 days, go out to leave for work and its shacking out of controll and now will not start. I checked compression, but only on #1 and its reading 60lbs. I was told its my timing. I have only gotten one quote for the repaire at a min of $1100 and the guy said that with that motor half the time when the timing chain slips the motor is now blown, doesn't make sense to me. I do have an understanding on fixing cars, but the timing might be out of my league just because I don't know anything about it. I have done alot of repaires to other vehicle I didn;t know how to do and figured it out so my questions are.. Should I take it somewhere? Should I man up and do it myself seems we have an extra car I can use while the truck is down? Could the mechanic be right and my motor really be blow just cause the timing slipped? PLease help...

If you only have 60 psi in that cylinder, yes your engine needs a rebuild. Sorry man.
