Performance mod gone wrong?
I recently took ownership of a F-150 Platinum 2010 4x4 SuperCrew. One performance modification I do, being a Chevy owner previously, is to let a microwave run in the interior with the door open for a couple minutes. This usually adds 5-10 MPG. However, doing this with the F-150, the airbags went off, both the passenger, the driver and the side canopies. The vehicle would not start either. As another kicker, the navigation screen seemed to be damaged.
Since this isn't covered under warranty, and I would not expect damage from a performance modification ever to be covered, I sold the vehicle to the dealer for scrap in return for them converting the bed into a truck bed trailer, and purchased a replacement vehicle (exactly the same features and color) from their lot.
My question, is what happened with a basic performance modification just bad chance, or would it happen again with the replacement Platinum F-150 I have now? I just want to be safe than be out another 45 grand.
