My Ford F150 2008 Harley Davidson 5.4 V8 was delivered with some winter tires 285/60 R18 X 9 and rims with zero mm offset. Standard offset is +34mm, the winter tires stick 39 mm farther out than the standard. Has any of you experienced guys some advise if other modifications/reinforcement is required to make these wheels acceptable?
The up-side would be you could probably run chains with those wheels. The down-side would be the offset (or lack thereof) might cause rubbing in turns, which would make you wish you didn't have chains....
techrep...My stock 22" wheels are summer tires and will be back on coming spring. Winter tires are obligatory and I do not want to spend more money on rims and tires, the ones I have followed the car when it was imported from USA to Norway. The subject wheels and tires fit well enough and there is no rubbing and the clearance to suspension and wheel wells are ok. I ask if the offset is acceptable from a load point of view, does the vehicle stand the added width between wheel centrelines, i.e. additional 35 mm scrub diameter each side (totally 70mm wider) regardless of wether it look nice or not. As I am about to get the truck approved by authorities, I know this will be an issue. So simply addressing the zero offset question to see if there is anyone that can give me some facts on the structural/load vs added width issue.
