Well, I took my truck to the mechanic (07 F-150 XLT 5.4) cuz I was having a lot of issues, constant misfires, loud ticking noise and loss of power, like, really bad. They looked at it the first time, listened to it and drove it with a computer plugged in and first diagnosis was cam phasers and collapsed lifters. Today they opened it up and it was a whole different nightmare. A lifter is broken, a rocker arm is broken, and the cam is damaged. The intake valve in the cylinder head hit the piston damaging the valve. This is only on the passenger side were most of the noise was coming from. On the right side just by removing the valve cover the found a lot of metal shavings and nasty black gunk. They didn't even look into it more cuz what's the point uh? They quoted me for a complete rebuild, every single part, new pistons, rectified cylinders, oil pump, cam phasers, timing kit, lifters, probably new heads and the whole 9 yards for 3900 out the door. Don't even have that kind of money right now but I think it sounds like a pretty decent deal right? What do you guys think? Thanks

I've never saw a "broken lifter". I would like to see a picture of this. And I'd price used motors from salvage yards and crate motors to see what the prices of those are. Here's a 5.4 liter crate motor.

I'd be looking into a used/reman 07-08 3v or a used 4v.

The one you linked would save money on parts and labor for pistons/cams/heads(your damaged valves). Still needs timing components, all accy, and valve covers. Don't know what all that would cost vs. buying a complete used motor minus external accy.

If parts and labor to replace your pistons(if needed) and heads is more than $2200, it would be a better deal.
