Unhappy Yet another 5.4 Issue

First off I want to say sorry for the diesel noise question but I never found my issue anywhere. It seems like everyone that has their cam phaser noise its always consistent.

2007 XLT 5.4 **Truck build date was 08/06
Heres My issue:

This noise has been there since I first got the truck with 120k

My noise isn't consistent like everyone else's. Sometimes it knocks horribly and sometimes it runs like a watch.

Another thing thats new is when I am accelarating during 1200-1500 there is a roaring sound coming from the engine. BUT, I restarted the truck and the noise went away???

Can this be a sensor or something... Does this sound like the vct solenoids??

Please Help Maybe someone has had this happen on their truck

First off, the roaring you are hearing from your truck.. does it sound like it's sucking in a LOT of air? Kind of like the noise a large Vortec motor makes?

Mine does it at random times on startup but stops shortly thereafter.

To the rest of your problem, it's very hard to diagnose it over the internet but I can post a video showing what causes the different sounds. Some examples are:

- Bad phaser
- Bad lash adjusters
- Injectors

Click the link and click "5.4 VCT Theory & Operation" about half way down. It will open a movie. Fast forward to about 5 minutes to the good stuff.

The roaring noise has only happened once so far, and it went away when i turned the ignition off and restarted the truck... A new thing i noticed after that same trip though is when i shut the truck off to go home its making a noise as if its sucking something in or air is escaping from somewhere, and it goes on for about a minute before stopping.... Still havent had a chance to try and replicate the problem but any ideas what this could be?

Btw thanks for the link it really helped!

I changed my plugs and all the weird engine noises seem to be gone... But maybe someone knows why my truck is doing another thing...

When i turn left slowly there is a grinding/knocking sound

When i turn right there is a squeeling sound

When im driving there is slight vibration and a LOT of road noise ( as if i had mud tires on)

Its a 2007 2 wd... Is this the bearings in the front wheels?
