Would you buy a used suspension lift?

Go ahead and buy the used one. The most likely thing to break or be bad would be the shocks but those aren't that hard nor expensive to replace. Pretty hard to beat up some leafs and such.

So I finally had a chance to go check out the lift for sale. I drove down to a really ghetto part of Chula Vista with a buddy of mine and pulled up to what looked like a meth lab. Knocked on the door and had some ragedy looking chick come out to show us the lift (which was still on the vehicle). Come to find out its her boyfriends truck who crashed it as he was running from San Diego police. (So were off to a great start) - he's in jail and they are trying to come up with $5000 to bail him out. Originally they wanted $800 but I told them if I had to remove it myself I would only be willing to pay $300 for it.
So after more time then I wanted to spend we got it apart paid her and got the hell outta there. It's a bit dirty but I'm going to get it cleaned up and maybe powder coat it. Pretty damn sweet deal if you ask me!! I even scored all 4 steps sides for free...
