Default Is it worth it to switch out gears?

So I want to get back some of the power I lost by going with bigger tires. I first bought a power tuner and wasn't overly thrilled with the power gain. I actually didn't notice it until I put the truck back on stock and felt a little power loss. I have heard from a couple of friends that switching the gears will give a drastic change. I have 3.73 right now and am leaning towards 4.56 or maybe 4.88. I have 35's right now and am not planning on getting 37's anytime soon, if ever at all... Anyways, I'm thinking more about getting 4.56 gears but want to make sure I'm really going to feel the difference if I'm going to spend the money. What does everyone think? Is it worth it???

I put 35's on my 3.55 gear and it sucks from the start. I'm swappin out to the 3.73 just because I road trip my truck to and from houston/chicago atLEAST once a year. I would go with a 4.10 before I went to a 4.56 but thats just me. Good luck~!

if your planning on 37s 4.88 is optimal to regain power, but its gonna cost. from what ive read on here its around $1500 for both axles

Yeah, I'm looking at about $1450 for the 4.56's with installation, but just want to be sure that the gears are worth it. It does suck from the start too.

If ya have bigger tires, you don't have much of a choice.

Well, my choices are either stick with what I have, which isn't bad, or pay the money to get more power, but I really want to feel the difference, I don't just want a little change. I hope I don't sound crazy, I just want the bang for the buck.

If you have the cash, I say definately do it. I have 4.88's with 37"s and the truck feels quicker than when it was stock! And I average over 14 mpg's with this setup. I would go with the 4.56s with the 35"s. Something else to consider is less strain on the engine and tranny with not having to work so hard to get up to speed...my .02!

I'm running 4.56s with 37's. This put me right back in line with the stock 3.73 ratio and FX4 tire size. 4.88's would have given me a little extra low end to offset the significantly increased rolling weight of the tires, but I wanted to gear for a little better highway mpg. With a CAI, programmer and DIDO exhaust, I have no complaints.

The difference was certainly noticeable from the stock 3.73s. Especially off the line, and going up hills you can actually hear the tranny working less hard.

In your case, the 4.56's are going to give you more kick than the 4.11s, but you will take a small hit in mpgs at higher speeds.

PS - Regearing is also a good time to consider putting in an aftermarket LS such as a TrueTrac. Your stock LS won't last long with larger tires.
