Although for a 2005, the attached Engine compartment wiring diagram should help. But keep in mind - the Instrument Cluster is a 'smart' device (processor) also, and the PCM communicates the ECT temp from the Cylinder Head Temp sensor and transmits ECT to it for for display. The only wires involved are the CAN BUS.

The CHT sensor is underneath the intake manifold between Cyl 3 & 4.

EDIT: If you are having trouble with dashboard temp gauge - it's probably within the Instrument Cluster. The CHT is a quiet a smart little gizzmo and given heavy responsibility. The PCM runs a diagnostic routine on it each drive cycle. If the engine overheats, the PCM will alternate shutting down cylinders (feels ragged as hell) trying to salvage engine - and will ultimately go into limp mode.

@F150Torqued
I have an '06 F150 5.4, that within the past year, I have replaced the CHT sensor and the rare oil pan temp sensor. Last weekend, I was parked, idling, a/c off and 75ish temp, and the gauge started going up a little. It did it again on the way home, sitting at a stop light, but both times it would go down when I started driving. I replaced my fan clutch on Tuesday, and now it has gotten worse, to where the temp goes up when driving, and even pegging out, out of the blue. I had a cheapo Craftsman scan tool in the truck that I plugged in, and the highest temp that I saw was 240 when gauge pegged. The fan clutch that I put in was a Duralast, as that was all that was available. I know that my gauge cluster has issues, IE: airbag light shorted out, and cabin/cargo lights turn on randomly, but turn off with a smack to the dash. Could my faulty cluster issues now include the temp gauge? TIA
