I've noticed the air whistling noise before, I'm not going to rule that out because it was a windy day! This was just a seemingly different whine..I'm going to look at the pulleys and if nothing is wrong there, I'm gonna assume its air from somewhere until something goes out on me I guess..lol

Edit: I should also note, it sounds like a moving part, definitely mechanical which is why I'm thinking its a pulley or something in the front end, I just don't know what..

A lot of people are saying a pulley or alternator issue, thanks everyone! I'll look into that..

I'll ask again, Is there any way to tell if a pulley is bad without replacing them?

Use an automotive stethoscope to check each pulley.

I worked in a garage..used that on people all the time. Also checked muffler bearings, turn signal fluid, and the johnson rod, and they all looked good!

It's still under warranty, I'm taking it in after work so he can put a stethoscope on it..

Not to change the subject, but I know Ford says the 5.4L's are supposed to have some cam phaser noise from the VCT and injectors firing, but how much is normal? I hear some ticking when its warm, but its not really loud..

Johnson Rod is for real. Just ask any steam locomotive engineer.
Could it be the dreaded rear end whine? Although mine is past sounding like a whine, it now sounds like a thrashing machine.

Quick update:

Took it to the dealer I bought it from after work today and took the service manager for a ride (granted this guy treated me well in the past, when I bought it he changed both cats and the plugs for me!) It made the noise clear as day and he heard it too. It was most clear around 50-55mph, and he thinks it's definitely something mechanical coming from the engine, but he has never heard anything like it. He also said since its not hurting the performance of the truck, and it would take hours to try to diagnose, he said not to worry about it until it gets worse then he'd "take care of it for me"

We'll see what happens
