Wheel hop/vibration 50-55 mph
Well, here it goes, the infamous wheel hop/rear end vibration. I've had it for about 5 months now on my 06 stx 2wd 4.6l with 92k. So far I've done just about everything. I started by replacing everything in the brake system (rotors, pads, emergency brake shoes and hardware, calipers, ect), I replaced the shocks, rotated the drive shaft several times, and now, had the entire 8.8 rear end rebuilt (new bearings, races, seals, gears, axle bearings, ect) and still, at 50 -55 mph, the bed looks like it could rattle off at any moment. Only difference from when it first started to now after the diff rebuild is its more definable. Before you couldn't tell if it was both wheels or just one or if it was something else. Now, from 50 to 52mph, both wheels seem to hop at the same time. From 52 to 53/54 mph the rear pass tire hops. From 53/54 to 55 mph, the rear driver tire hops. I'm done messing around and sinking money into a never ending money hole problem. I've searched this issue and it seems that only temp solutions have been found such as clamping the 3rd leaf to the pack or buying an add-a-leaf or trac bar or a spring helper. Anyone have an idea? Thanks in advanced.

I also read about a dampener. Anyone try this besides a few in the thread I listed the link to?

I want to try the damper on the rear driver side frame but I cannot find a decent picture of its orientation on the frame not an install pdf or guide. Anyone with it, can you post a pic of it and whether it works or not. Same goes for the spring traction leafs from hellwig or the like. Do they work?

You should have a vibration dampener mounted under the bed already.. you sure yours didn't fall off.. not sure about the wheel hop..

Are your tires showing wear marks or are you just seeing the bed vibrate?
If your tires are cupping and wearing odd then its a suspension issue (alignment most likely).
If your tires are fine then its a vibration issue.. check for rusted bed sills, missing bolts etc.
Do you have a bed cover? Roll bar? anything in the rear that would affect airflow?

Mine was doing that pretty bad then i rotated the tires (37x12.5x17 federal couragia mt) and it got a tad better. No hop in the steering wheel. Then i switched to 315/70r17s bfg ko2s and most of the hoppin is gone. Once in a while i feel a little but its a 100% better.
