Default What is this wire?

While finishing up putting everything back in place today I noticed this wire. What is it for. It is melted on the end, I believe possibly from me laying my shop light on it. At first I panicked thinking I had burnt/melted through a wire but there is no other end to be found anywhere. It is attached to the hard lines on the abs module just to hold it in place and it goes down and meets with a couple other wires and into the plastic sleve and then is harder to trace but I think I may go down to the drivers wheel.

Wire to nowhere??

I just looked at my '05 and I have the same thing except mine doesn't appear melted. Mine is somewhat hidden by that bracket with the figure 8 holes and the intake snorkel so I had never noticed it before. Its NOT a wire but rather a plastic tube. I haven't followed it to figure out where it goes, but maybe later I will. I'll let you know if I do. I'm thinking its plumbing for option we don't have.

Thank you so much for looking atleast now I feel better knowing someone else has the same thing. Yes it normally is hidden by the breather/intake. I will go look at mine again as I thought it was wire on the inside. If it in in fact a hollow tube then maybe I should cut a couple inches of the end where it is melted. I looked to me like it went down to the drivers side wheel but it is kind of hard to tell for sure. Thanks again.

Is your truck 4X4? Could it maybe be the front axle vent? On the 99-03s it was next to the starter solenoid on the passenger side. Maybe they moved it for the 04-08s?

A vent crossed my mind, but I wouldn't think they would leave it open without some type of breather cap/cover to prevent plugging. Its pretty small, the I/D is only about 1/16". As suggested, I would cut the end off to open it up.

Mine is a 4x4. I suppose that could be it. It is a smaller tube though but I looked at the top again and yes it does appear to be a tube vs. a wire. I will pull it back into the garage in the morning and get under it and try to verify that it does in fact go to the drivers side hub area. In my 2004 I dont recall there being an "axle" vent per say, there was a front differential vent (which I suppose could be called an axle vent) but that was a larger tube and went from the differential to the frame on the drivers side. I will have to look closer, thanks for the responses and suggestion.

Wayne, that must be what it is because that's exactly what it looks like.
