was wondering what trans is in my 04 f-150 screw with a 5.4 3v in it ?
And is there any normal problems i should be looking for the older it gets ?
I have no engine codes and the trans shifts fine , i'm just wondering ?
and will a 4.6 interchange with a 5.4 ?
and would a aftermarket tranny pan be a good investment?

 

1. 4r75 transmission
2. Cam phasers, fuel pump control module, other wear items
3. You can swap, but swapping a 5.4 back in will be much easier
4. A trans cooler, if it doesn't have one, is a better investment than the pan. The pan just makes it take longer to warm up and a little cooling. A cooler will constantly keep temps low.

 

I reread what I posted > what I ment was will a 4.6 trans replace a 5.4 trans ? sorry for the confusionI already did the cam phasers and chopped the muffler for a flowmaster > just wanted a heads up on any known trans problems with my truck as I plan on keeping it for awhile

 

A 4.6L trans is the 4r70 while the 5.4L has the 4r75. While it is possible to swap, it's a downgrade to do so as the 4r70 is weaker.

 

is there a visual diffrence in them how do i tell if its a 4r75 ?
