Like the title says guys. What makes them so special? Obviously you can correct the tore size, change get shift firmness, Rev limits, speed limits, all that good stuff but what else?

Do they take away the torque management? Do Fords even have that? I know Chevy's have a big problem with that. I also read somewhere that when you put your foot to the floor on these trucks that your only getting about 70% or so throttle. Does it adjust that? I'm getting ready to order a gryphon with a custom tune and wanted to know what all its going to do and what all to ask for from it..

A gryphon on these trucks is night and day. All of what you stated is correct with the addition of WOT fuel adjustments and timing adjustments. Once I loaded the canned lvl 2 tune I felt like I was in a whole new truck. The throttle lag is gone and the pudding soft shifts are a thing of the past. You can also change shift points and torque converter lock and unlock for ever gear. As for the TQ management, I'm not sure. There is a pid readout why monitors it bu I do not think it can be turned off. I may be wrong though. Anyone want to confirm?

I like how it firmed up the shifts and delays upshifting. Before the truck was shifting much too soon and had no power from a stop. Now its much quicker off the line from a stop.
I also adjusted the speedometer/odometer for bigger tires.

2 miles more per gallon is what makes mine so special , it has paid for itself . All the above mentioned gains and it paid for itself in savings . Who says horsepower has to be expensive .

Hi.

A couple more, off the top of me pointy head ... ( with regard to custom tuning):

Reduction of trans temps by minimizing slippage

Tow tunes offer reduction in EGT's at rated loads for safety

Excellent A/F control in Open Loop ( may require datalogging )

Ability to provide a specific MAF transfer function for almost any aftermarket CAI/WAI/Washoobi, to render them safe to use

Integration with Widebands, EGT gauges, and any other analog inputs for either display and/or datalogging capture ( specific to hardware device )

Actual achievement of the 300+ crank HP you paid for, as the shift points are raised to the point where this ( peak) power is available.

Improvement in power "under the curve" across the entire rpm spectrum.

Optimizations of a host of other delays or shortcomings in the factory calibration, leading to improved overall drive-ability.

Reduction of Open Loop delay.

Datalogging ( SCT has a very feature-rich set of tools for this )

Specific tuning for *any* octane level, and *any* user-specified usage ( e.g: race, drag, econo, MAX tow, perf, combo perf/tow, etc, etc

Full 7-digit Strategy-matched custom calibrations - far more in-depth tuning than any canned device can provide.

According to TP, on 93 octane fuel a good custom perf calibration can net you up to 40 hp and 70ft-bs of torque on a 5.4L 3V

Nice to know guys! Any idea how long it takes to get a gryphon from PHP? And should I order online or what?

Also I'm getting my plugs changed tomorrow. Should I buy new Cop's or just leave them alone?

Hi.

You can get the hardware quite quickly. The custom tuning is another matter. They are a small company and quite busy. So patience would be a virtue.

Once yer ordered tuning is ready, you simply connect the device to yer PC and PHP's software ( which you need to download and install) will do the updates/loading for you.

Yes - you simply order online via their online forms accessible from their website: www.gopowerhungry.com

Remember - only an Evo 15051 can be converted to a Gryphon with custom tuning. The Edge CS/CTS cannot. No custom tuning for them. Blame Edge, not PHP. All of those details are also on the site ( and their forum).

As for plugs - which ones? You need to specify exactly which truck you have - I can't see yer truck over the internets, lol

If yer COPs are fine, no need to change them. You should use new boots however, AND use fresh dielectric grease.

good luck

So if I order a gryphon from them will it come with canned tunes until I can get the custom tunes?

Also I have a 2005 FX4. I'm getting Motorcraft one piece plugs. And I'll be sure to order the new boots!

Hi.

Gryphon. Yep - you will receive the unit with canned tuning.

Plugs: There ARE NO Motorcraft 1-piece plugs for a 2005 5.4L 3V. Sorry.

ALL the MC's for this engine, be it originals, SP507's and the current-spec SP515's are a 2-Piece plug.

The only 1-piece plugs for these engines is the Champ 7989 and Brisk Racing plugs, and E3's. Don't even THINK about running E3 e3.70's - they are total junk.

good luck
