I'm pretty sure my cam phasers are going. My truck was showing check engine light. My mechanic said that my truck wasn't throwing any codes. Perhaps out of date software?

 

Um, what is the truck doing? Why are you thinking the phasers are going out? Many things can make an engine run ragged other than that. That often seems to be a quick, and expensive, conclusion to jump to. As to what to do, whatever the problem is, the only choices are to fix it, or park it! I say get it fixed!

 

Wait for the CEL to light up again and read the code... you can have it read for free at most auto parts stores.

 

5.4 is sounding like a clacker at idle. When I kick up the rpms everything seems to settle down.
