been on here for awhile did the whole search thing and maybe I missed it but here's my question. (dont slaughter me for it please!) I bought a used 05 lariat screw 4x4. came with airaid cai, runs great averages 16mpg has a topper, blah blah, blah. reading about the gotts mod sounds like a good deal, (i didn't get stock intake with truck) whats the difference between the mod and a cai? besides filter location, i dont see any difference. so why dose a cai make you truck run lean but the gotts don't? the MAF should take care of the difference aint that its job?

 

Well I have a cold air intake from pep boys just some lame brand and it dose'nt make the truck run lean but it also has a spacer around the mass air meter so that its stock diameter at the spot of the meter. Just to see I took out that spacer and it ran a little crappy and caused a check engine light. The air intake tube is just a big 4inch tube in mine and it works great. The stock air box and tube are crazy looking. I get decent gas mileage with a 5.4 and 6" lift. My buddy with his 2500 HD and 33" tires and stock air box with a 6.0L gets like 10-11 mpg and im getting more like 15-17 mpg.

Hes got alot of power in that HD but I tow/haul whatever I need too including a enclosed car hauler and 3500 lb mustang inside and my truck is basically just as tough. He has a bigger frame but neither of us plan on hauling a 5th wheel or a bed full of bricks so my F150 is way more practical.

 

so you must think the same way as me then, other than the placement of the filter, a tube is a tube right.?. If it trully runs lean even from factory with stock air system on it then why don't we just run a colder thermostat like the old stuff? lol
