my next step would be to pull the valve covers and look inside there. maybe you wont need to pull the engine, but either way the valve covers need to some off. take a look at the valve train while turning the engine with a socket, and try to see if anything is either not moving, or hitting something else.

definately let us know what you fine. hope all goes well!

Man, that really sucks. At least you have some very good friends willing to help out.

Please keep us all informed.

sometimes you will see a little milky residue on the oil fill cap, especially if the vehicle is not regularly brought up to operating temp.

Let's start with the basics.... if there was coolant getting in the oil, the radiator would be low. What is the coolant level?

Have you checked the PCV valve? A blocked PCV will pressurize the crankcase and force oil out everywhere, including all the way back to the air box.

OIL? it's cheap, drain it and see what's in the drain pan.

So once you have established it's not the PCV, and the coolant is low, and there is crap in the oil, it's time for compression and or leak down tests.

You might also want to get one of those radiator pressure testers ant pressurize the cooling system up to about 20 PSI and see if it is holding pressure or is it leaking.

Start with the basics, make a good diagnosis, then tear into it.
