I sure as hell wouldn't be going with them if they're saying it has 5 gears..

I hit 5 instead of 4 my bad. They're doing a transmission rebuild for $2200. I was hoping I wouldnt have to resort to that but I felt the chances of a small fix solving everything was pretty small. Thanks everyone for all the insight. I'll post one last update when I get the truck back. It's supposed to be better than factory so at least I can look forward to that

Is that the going rate where you are at? Just curious if you researched it or not. Let me know how it goes. I have just under 130k miles on my truck, about to do all timing components and more. I suspect my transmission is going to be next. Hope all goes smooth, good luck to you!

Got the truck back and all is fixed. We had it taken to the best trans place in the area so I didn't look around at prices much. I just wanted it done right. I have to take it back to the shop in 10 days so they can make sure everything is buttoned up. Then I have a 3 year warranty on it! Next I'll be replacing all the timing components which I will do myself. Once that's done the truck should be like new. Thanks everyone for all the help

Default Fixed transfer issue for me

The valve that lets the trans fluid flow from transmission to the trans cooler/radiator failed on mine causing slipping and hard shifts, replaced this valve and put in new fluid, 5k miles later no problems. 180k on the truck. Part number is 7L3Z-7H322-A

What was the problem? Did they show you the part(s) that failed? Let us know what you found out? Curious if it was the Overdrive Servo piston retaining ring that failed or not. Also, there is a kit called "Surecure", did they use that instead of stock parts? Sorry to pepper you with questions, just like to know as much as possible about it. Glad she's back on the road and running good!!

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I am having a similar issue. Just yesterday, I was driving in town and all of a sudden my tranny just gave out going from 3rd to 4th. No engagement or anything. No signs of this coming on either. The engine would just rev as if I was in neutral. Weirdest thing! Very frustrating to say the least. My truck has 138K. Most recent transmission flush was done last June with no indications of anything out of the ordinary.

I have taken it to the Ford garage for them to diagnose the issue. It could be as simple as a sensor thing or a worst case tranny issue that would need a rebuild. Feeling pretty bummed about this incident.

Any other thoughts on this, please share your experience. Thanks!

My buddy's 04 f-150 was doing this and he was told that it was his torque converter. Is it generally at low RPM's in that speed range?
