Default Weird quick sound at startup.

Howdy All!

I just replaced the cats as of last week. Bought cut&weld Magnaflow OEM replacements - brought the whole cat assembly and new cats to a reputable muffler shop - reinstalled myself.

a weird sound has started to occur since the replacement on startup.
I’ll attach a video as opposed to trying to explain.

timing chains and phasers replaced 15k miles ago at 135,000. Timely oil changes, MC filters, etc.

thoughts?

Sounds like the starter isn't disengaging from the ring gear properly on start up.
May just be just a coincidence and is unrelated ro the latest work efforts.
Suggest check If the starter is securely installed...listen down at the starter while someone starts it....remove starter & have your favorite shop evaluate it.
Compared to the $ of the cat's it should be an easy one.

just came back here to close the thread and saw your response. you were right on, but I was able to diagnose and resolve prior to your message.

Crawled under the truck and had someone start - sounded like starter wasn’t disengaging from ring gear. Went to pull starter and found the top mounting bolt was missing causing the starter to misalign. Threw a new starter in for good measure. Problem solved, ring gear teeth in good shape.
