I have a weird rubbing/grinding noise coming from the front drivers side of my truck.

When accelerating from stop to about 30 mph, the noise starts. It's a cyclic noise that is proportional to the speed of the car. (Goes away at higher speeds) I tried putting the truck into 4wd to see if it went away, no dice..

It's a very weird rubbing/grinding noise, almost plastic like, but somewhat metallic.

I got a flat on this same side when it started, but even with a fixed tired it has stayed. Wheel bearing?

 

Wheel bearing, just to make sure u could check the lug nuts to make sure they are tight as well. But I'm betting on wheel bearing. Good luck.

 

Can you feel any vibrations that accompany it? I would check the ball joints/tie rod end/wheel bearing to see any obvious visual problems first.

 

There is no change in the feel of anything, strictly the noise.

 

if it's not a wheel bearing, it could be brake related and it's still making the noise at higher speeds but wind is drowning it out... the dust shield, sticky caliper slides, very slightly warped rotor.

 

I had a similar problem recently...the bottom bolt for my driver side caliper went missing. When I would brake sometimes I would hear this grinding noise because the caliper was grinding against the inside of the rim. The sound wasn't noticeable a higher speeds or with the windows up and radio on but apparently this had been going on a couple of weeks. The caliper bolt kit was around $12 at orielly. Hope this helps and that it's not something more major.

Its less of a 'roar' like a wheel bearing and more of scrape. I'll hear one scrape per turn, where as a bearing seems to always roar. This seem like its more of a brake issue?

 

have you tried jacking the front up and spinning the wheels? Maybe you can locate where it's coming from or even see the issue?
