Wanting Black headlights--what did you do or buy?
I want to get some Black Headlights for the truck. I've been reading about people taking their OEM headlights apart and painting them. It doesn't sound too bad. I was thinking of doing this project in the spring. And then the wife asked me what the truck needs for Christmas (like it's part of the family) and I was thinking of the headlights that are being sold on Ebay. Does anyone have these lights and are they worth the $90 bucks? Or should I just do my own??? Or other suggestions?

I've heard horror stories about the ebay headlights . The lighting is awful, fit and the sealing around the headlights. I forgot where i saw but there was a guy that took off his oem headlights and just painted the inside of em. It looked great.

I took mine apart and painted them. What a pain!! I had to put each in the oven twice and it took like a hour and half to get each apart with help from a heat gun. They turned out great after that, but be prepared to have trouble. There are some on eBay for $75 shipped, just run a bead of clear silicone around them before installing.. also I left mine in the oven too long and the lenses have hair line cracks now... I'll ne buying the eBay ones next year possibly

I have actually done both. I baked and painted stock, but like mentioned above also had hairline cracks. I then bought the eBay ones and have been happy with them after I sealed them up with silicone. Pics in album if interested. Stock are more black.

I would have painted my stock ones but the coating was coming off the lenses on the outside. Bought the cheapest ebay headlights I could find, sealed with silicon, waxed the lenses, and have had no problems.

That's interesting. I was under the impression that the ebay ones are junk. But for the money, I thought I would take the chance.
