Default Voltage regulator

Hi the volt meter in my truck when key is turned off stops in middle.then when I start it climbs to maximize top when running..is it my gauge to voltage regulator. 2004 ford f150.5.4 183.000kms and piece of crap..lol.

Check voltage with a digital volt meter at the battery with the engine running. The dash gauges are notoriously inaccurate. the voltage regulator is solid state non adjustable and built into the alternater and in later years voltage is controlled by the BCM modual.

How many volts should it be .so put it on the positive on battery post.
