Default Viper Smart Start

Thinking about installing Viper Smart Start in my truck and I was wonder, can you still use the door keypad to unlock the truck? Do any of y'all have this installed and can give feedback on the system?

Default Auto-Start

CKing, I don't have a Viper Smart Start, but I do have a remote start (AstroFlex) for my truck and I can use the door keypad to open unlock the door(s) when having started the truck. Hope this helps.

I have a viper alarm...no start option yet, but I can only open my doors with the keypad...not unlock. I think the original owner might have screwed something up. Any ideas on where to go to get it fixed?

You can use the keypad with any aftermarket remote start quite easily. Where the issue is, if you have an alarm, or remote start and alarm combo. You can use the keypad in that case however it will not disarm the alarm so your alarm would go off when you open the door. I know there were others who've attempted to tie into the keypad to disarm it however it's digital to the BCM (I believe), so it's not quite that simple.

One thing to note with Smart Start too, if you have the alarm function you need to ensure that you have an extra FOB or know how to put the system into valet mode *IF* you are out of cellular range. As you can imagine, if you have no cell coverage, you're not unlocking/locking your doors or starting your vehicle. If you don't have the alarm (and no starter kill), just use the key and it should be fine in that situation.
