Vibration When Stopped In Gear
Another thought
OP stated "I should add that I can only feel the vibration through the brake pedal."
Is this vibration very high frequency and reasonably severe? I had a Lincoln Towncar that would do this and it was tied into the antilock braking system. Its been many years ago but I think all I had to do was clean the wheel speed sensors. they sometimes pick up (magnetized) brake dust and cause the antilock system to engage at low speed. This occurred while stopping and I do not remember it having anything to do with gear shift lever position.
