Default VCT Solenoid

Hey guys need an opinion. I started getting a little chatter in my 5.4 around a 1000 rpm. Was a little frustrated because this engine has been pampered all its life. Fresh 5w20 every 3000 miles and a 820 filter. But I started isolating what it could be and when I unplugged the VCT solenoids the noise was gone. Never any noise at start up. Plugged them back in and it is still gone but I expect it to return. My question is what replacements are you guys using. Dorman makes them but I'm a little nervous going that route. Anyone had good or bad luck with them? The other option is OEM. Thoughts or opinions?

I replaced mine with Motorcraft. The price of the MC isn't bad. I payed around $120 for two new solenoids and new seals. Make sure you get new seals as well since you will most likely damage them when you remove the old solenoids.

What year is you're truck? It will depend how big of a PITA it is to change the solenoids.

2005. They aren't hard to get to. Worst thing is moving the power steering fluid reservoir and that's 3 bolts. Noise still hasn't came back since I unplugged them this morning. Not sure what to make if this yet.

Ok yours is easy then. Pulling the valve covers can get interesting.
