Default VCT question

I heard a ticking coming from my engine and the guy at ford said it's my VCTs and not to worry about it because it's normal. Is this normal or are they full of sh*•t and do I need to change them ?

What year truck do you have? Ford updated the VCT solenoids a while back. I swapped mine out myself and it quieted them down a little bit... Just remember when you buy the VCTs to replace the seals also. You'll tear the seals up when removing them. Also be careful when removing the bolts that hold the VCT in place. you don't want them dropping into the engine..... Oh and that ticking sound is normal LOL. Just make sure it isnt your injectors getting a little loud.. Over time the injectors tick a little louder.
