valve to piston interference

Default valve to piston interference

im doing a timing chain phaser rebuild i need to know if i turn the crank with no chains on will the pistons hit the valves on the 5.4 3 valve

yes i believe the 5.4 is an interference motor

so at what position can i safely turn the cams then . does the crank keyway have to be at 12 oclock for cam rotation

Have you already removed the chains? If not get the motor at TDC before you remove the chains. That's what I did on mine. Then when I went on with the new parts you don't have to turn anything that much. I went by an electronic service manual I have but you should be able to get the diagrams from all data for free if you create a user account on auto zones website.
