Default Vacuum leak

what is the best way to find a vacuum leak on a 2004 5.4 is there something you can spray around the intake to see if there is a leak around it and can you buy something at a parts store to find a vacuum leak I also have a actron 9680 scanner will it tell me if there is a vacuum leak I don't have the money to take it to a ford dealer and my son needs it to go back to work after the 2nd of jan. Thanks Again

A scanner probably won't tell you if you have a vacuum leak. Maybe if you were really smart you could look at the engine parameters and compare them to saved parameters from a while ago. But the way easier way is to use soap. Get some dish soap put it into a container, fill it with water to make it really foamy or sudsy and then scoop out the suds or foam off the top of the container. Then put them all over the top of your engine. If you have a vacuum leak the suds or foam will be get sucked into wherever it is.

One more thing I might add that I just thought about. If you have any starter fluid or brake cleaner or throttle body cleaner. Something along those lines. You can spray around your engine anywhere where there could even be a vacuum leak. If there is, the spray will change the idle and the sound of the truck and then you will know if you have one.

What are problems? How did you determine that it is a vacuum leak? I bought a vacuum gauge at harbor freight (insert mean jokes here) for under $30.00 and it helped me diagnose my IWE problems.
