Default Upgrading to Navigation

I bought my '07 Lariat SCrew 4x4 without the navigation radio. I do have the 6cd in the dash, however. Can I just buy an OEM Nav unit from a wrecked truck and would it just be a plug and play in my truck? I assume the wiring harness is the same? Heard of other people doing that with F250's and with Chevy's. Also, how difficult is dash removal/install? And what year nav units would work in my '07? Would be sweet if I could make this work.

should be plug and play, may need to relfash the computer to make it work though, i have heard yes and no. taking off the dash bezel is a muinute job. i have used the factory navigation and i am not that impressed, unless you can get a steal on a used navi unit, i would just go with an aftermarket one, but i understand if you want to keep the stock look of it.

$1250 on ebay or get an aftermarket. Both are plug and play. Let us know what you decide.

did you upgrade with the ford nav? I am considering this myself on my 07 screw. if so, was it plug and play, and did you get better sound with this unit? did it work with steering wheel controls and do you have a rearview camera? did you add one?

I haven't made any progress on this project cause I've been extremely busy with other things. However, I still plan on going ahead with it in a month or two. I do not have a camera in the truck, just the reverse sensors that beep. That system works well, but the camera in the 09's is sweet. Doubt I could integrate that into the nav, though.

Default Swapping 07 & 08 Headunits & a sub - need advice

Ok. Here's what I'm trying to do. I have an 07 Lariat f150 supercrew. Found someone who is going to sell me his headunit and subwoofer from his 08 Lariat f150 supercrew. I found the subwoofer connection under the carpet in the rear floorboard and it appears as if the sub will bolt in the same place in my 07 (there are holes in the seat brackets). As to the headunit. Both trucks currently have sirius, auxillary plug on the dash, and steering wheel controls. Should this be a plug and play or will I likely need special harnesses or adapt the ones in place? Lastly, I want to add a rearview camera to the new 08 head unit. My truck has a rear sensor but no camera. Any advice on hooking up a camera to this unit, and can anyone provide assurance that what I am trying to do is doable? Thanks

Depending on your model, it should all work. Keep in mind that the XL and STX models never came from the factory with the Audiophile setup; they can be made to work (if you have a back seat, or have another way to mount the unit). You'd have to add the wiring as well. The more "deluxe" packages are pre-wired, so those folks are good to go. Some have the steering wheel controls, some models did not. You can add this too. If your truck has all this pre-installed (steering wheel controls, Audiophile wiring), it should be "plug and play". Your easiest way to see how this will all work is to ask your local Ford parts counter person if this radio/GPS factory unit was an option for your truck. I have the 2005 sales brochure, but that may not be the same for your truck, since your year is a 2007.

Rather than go all the re-wiring route to go "factory" on my 2005 STX, I simply bought a used/perfectly working Pioneer AVIC D2 with GPS, MP3, S-DVD, and rear camera hookup. Screen is 6.5 inches, sound is great....and the price; $230.00 with included shipping. It's a double din, and fits perfect in the dash of any 2004 to 2008 (mines a 2005). No doubt there are better units, but at this price, and in perfect working/looking condition?

Deals are out there. Just got to look (and bid). If you want factory, then go for it. If you're happy, that's all that matters.

Well I stopped by an accessories shop today and they happened to have an 05 F150 that just got a Clarion Nav system installed. Awesome unit and features, but I just don't like the fit. The installer has a very good reputation, but it still doesn't look factory, imo. Thinking I'll stick with an OEM unit.

Anyone know if the OEM unit can play DVD's while driving?
