Default upgrading gear ratios

Hey I am going to change my gear ratio from the stock 3.73 to the 4.10 ratio. someone told me some off the wall stuff and has me second guessing myself. In order to change the gear ratio all you have to do is replace front and rear gears right. I dont need to get a new tranny and driveshaft and all that stuff right?

Correct. To go from 373 to 410 all you have to do is get master install kits and your gears for your axles. I don't know what the cut off is for an f150 but you might have to get new carriers to.

You seem like the type of person that shouldn't be swapping in gears yourself if you didn't know this...... Gear swaps are very difficult for the first timer. If you DIY. I would recommend get some spare pinion and carrier barriers to use as set up bearings. Take the spare bearings and grind them out with a dremel so they are easy to take on and off.

Is 4.10 going to be enough? With the larger tire, you may want to look at 4.56...

I've got 3.55 in mine and am going to go to a minimum of 4.10. Whomever told you that your trans and drive shaft needs to be swapped prob thinks vinyl gives you more hP...

I think he is bumping up to 4:10 and not 4:56 because of the highway mileage.. Gaining back some of the lost power but not sacrificing mileage..

Adambaca: Do you think you will loose enough power to justify upwards of $1800 on gears? I have a lift and 35's and didn't touch gears.. I'm still pretty peppy... My Programmer should balance me back out... You have one?

Post pics of your truck.....

I would go 4:56 over 4:10 for 35s.. The difference between 3:73 and 4:10 is almost a waste of an expensive gear job..... You will notice more torque off idle with the 4:56.... Your best and cheapest bet IMHO would be to get a programmer.

I went from 3.55 to 4.56 and with my 35" tires actually got 5 mpg better mileage both city and highway. I only have a 4.6l though and still can't spin my tires on pavement. Not that I would want to, but still can't.
