Only other area of rust complaint I've read about is where the fuel pump control module fits; up by the spare tire. This module bolts up against the frame rail and collects debris, salt, etc. which causes the module to be destroyed from the back, and couses the truck not to start due to it shutting down the fuel pump. The fix is to "shim out" the module away from the frame with some washers so the debris does not collect and rot/rust out this module.

I have rust below the gas cap door as well. The filler neck is loose and has rubbed the paint off. I guess this is common? How are the necks fastened so they won't rub? Unless this normal

I have an 05' and the only have surface rust on typical spots on the underbody/frame. They don't use rock salt here in CO but they do use mag chloride.

I have zero body rust so far, but the truck gets waxed a couple times a year and it's a fairly dry climate. For those that are having bad body rust, did you ever check your truck for rail dust? It'll look like tiny pinpoint brown spots in the paint. When they ship cars via train the iron dust kicked up from the wheels on the tracks gets embedded into the paint of any uncovered cars. These little metal splinters will work into the paint over time and then start rusting underneath. Any time I buy a vehicle I'll scrub it down good with a Meguire's clay bar kit and almost always pick some up. It's not as bad as it used to be 10+ years ago, but some parts of the country are worse than others depending on the shipping methods. If you're normally parking your vehicle anywhere downwind of railways it'll happen as well.

I have an 04 with 102K on it. Mine is isn't rusting persay but about a good 3-4inch square section of paint has come off on both corners of the bed right behind the cab and the adjoining cab corner section has about a 2inch square section of paint missing. I'm planning on just herculining the whole bottom part of my body from the body line down.

My truck is an 05 with 126,xxx miles on it and ive resprayed under the fuel door due to typical paint peel. I was washing the truck about a week ago and realized the blistering cab corners .... literally threw up when i saw it by next yr they will be completly gone and i would eat off the rest of the bottom of my truck i undercoat it twice a year and am unable to find any cab corners to weld in heres the damage

You can do a lot of rustproofing yourself. My dad does all our work trucks throughout the winter, he uses a combination of commercial grade diesel and I think some sort of oil. He just greases the heck out of them, and there's loads of little nooks in the doors, tailgate etc. where you can drench them with oil and let it leak out for about an hour. The Ontario winters are rough on the old girls. : (
But the only place I have rust is below my gas cap. The carwash peeled the paint off yesterday, so its about time I fix it. Nothing looks worse than rust on a good looking truck.
