Hi Folks, this update is to the post from 5-16-17, im really confused now, as mentioned in my other post the turn signal indicators sometimes are illuminated and the truck will not shift out of park, usually after driving and a quick stop at the store the turn signals illuminate at restart and no shift from park. Following is what i have.
1. Normal start, all exterior lighting works normal.
2. With turn signal on and flashing, turning on blower fan causes both turn indicators on the cluster to be on steady and no flashing on exterior lighting and no shifting from park. Turn off fan and back to normal.
3.With turn signal on and flashing, turning head lights from auto to on, same as above.
4. If i plug my cheap code reader in, both above problems do not apply and all systems are normal, dont want to drive this truck around with my code reader plugged in all the time. Also there are no codes.
This truck is a 2004 with 90,000 miles and i bought it right because the local dealership told the owner he needed a new engine at 85,000 because of that horrible rattle. Thanks to this forum i replaced all chains, tensioners, guides and phazers, and it runs so quiet you cant hardly hear it running.
Any ideas on my issue would be greatly appreciated

Check the shifter cable attachment under the truck on the driver side of the transmission. It may be only partially connected.

You've lost a ground somewhere, I'm almost certain of it. I had a very similar situation several years ago with a GM product. I'll go out and look at my son's '05 later and try to give you a few of the key ground junctions to look at.

Hi PerryB that makes sense, ive looked over the obvious grounds on the firewall and fender wells also crawled under the truck looking there, thinking a ground wire might have loosened up from when the timing components were replaced last summer, all check ok so far. i guess i need to locate a wiring diagram to see if there is a common ground for the lighting and fan blower because operation of either system seems to cause the problem. let me know if you have any ideas. Does the fan blower motor work on all 4 settings ?

Fan motor works on all 4 settings only with code reader plugged in otherwise its inop. also noted with blower on 4 the radio lights go out. gotta be a ground somewhere. Thanks Techrep

I was thinking about the blower motor resistor maybe shorting out causing problems.

To back up what was mentioned above about your shifter not working, get underneath your truck and look at the shifter cable, the plastic grommet could be broken that connects it. Any local auto parts store has a small package with several different size grommets to replace

My 2004 ford f150 is doing the same thing. If I start the truck and turn on the fan vent selector switch, my radio lights turn off, both turn signals light up solid, and the truck wont shift into gear. If I turn off the selector switch, three seconds later I hear a click in the fuse panel on the passenger side floor and I can shift again. If I'm driving and turn on the fan selector, activating my turn signals will make my radio lights flash and my high beam indicator to turn on.

I had an issue with my old '04 FX4 not being able to shift out of park. I replaced the brake switch on the steering column, that didn't solve it. I ended up keeping the plastic off the steering column and disconnecting the shifting cable that connects to the transmission and shifted using that until I figured out the problem. My problem is that a fuse would blow every time I used cruise control and the brake switch was connected to that fuse. The solution was even more unrelated than the cause and symptom... all I had to do was replace an inexpensive part on top of the engine (I don't remember what it was). I can look it up if you're interested.
