the truck is a 04 2wd 237000 miles on it, was told it would need a rear end soon no big deal, have had the truck for a week, registered it yesterday took it out today and now barely have revers??? i did notice the hum in the rear end got louder today since i last drove it,but would the rear end have anything to do with it not moving in reverse? any help would be appreciated..

Pull the drive shaft and see if the tail shaft of the tranny spins when the truck is in reverse. If so.. possible differential damage, if not, tranny problems.
