Troubleshooting high RPM
Hello I am looking for some opinions on a problem that I have had with my truck for last couple of weeks.
The truck is an 07 F150 5.4 2WD with 151k.
Around 145k I replaced timing chain, cam phasers, tensioners, guides, etc... radiator, clutch fan, oil pump, water pump.
Around 120k I replaced ignition coils an spark plugs.
Truck ran great until about 2 weeks ago, runs like I am pulling a heavy load. Rpms jump to 3.5-5K before shifting an general driving they seem to stay in the 2k. I checked transmission fluid which is still a clean red with no burnt smell and at correct level. I was hoping I could get some input or find someone with similar problem before having to pay an arm an leg for shop to diagnose problem.

When you say that the "Rpms jump to 3.5-5K before shifting", I assume you mean it does this in a neutral-like condition.... in other words like the transmission is slipping?

It’s while accelerating, but when it does shift it’s still fairly smooth no jolting or anything just takes longer an higher rpms than it used to.

So its shifting later than it should? Have you ever replaced the fluid/filter in the trans? I'd start there.

It goes in on Monday for flush an new filter. I just got the street clean from the timing chain job an hear this is a messy project, hopefully that’s the problem. truck is becoming a hobby with all the crap I am having to replace.

With your mileage and a flush, it'll probably continue to be a hobby...
