Push that button until youre on the trip and hold it down until it resets.

this clarification may not be necessary:

i don’t know if xlt has the multi functions or not?, if it does above means: push and release it until you get trip meter function. then press and hold to reset.

if you have the single function kind, you only have to press and hold.

I have a 2004 XLT and it is very easy to do. I always reset it when I fill up the gas tank. Push it until it has a "T" next to your miles traveled (trip mileage). Then push and HOLD it for about three seconds.

The number displayed will reset to zero. Easy peasy! (FWIW, sometimes it is easier with the driver's door CLOSED - so that the "Door Ajar" message will not be showing.)
