Hey, i been reading posts on the forum about my transmission issue. i have a 2008 F-150 FX4 with the 5.4 engine with about 160K miles and my transmission is doing the exact same issue that you were mentioning on your response. it goes good on 1st and 2nd gear and then act like it goes into neutral until the speed is reduce and then again engage on 2nd gear. i can not go over than 30 MPH. what TPS are you talking about (throttle position sensor???). Also the thread is talking about a solenoid (SSB). Do you have any parts number so I can order on eBay rather than purchase at the dealership?? thank you so much for your help and hopefully and can fix that issue soon because I can not drive my truck as is right now |
I am willing to bet if you turn the overdrive off it will never shift out of 2nd gear.
2nd and 3rd gear share the same shaft and a clutch (direct clutch) connects the 2. |

Truck runs fine if I turn over drive off every time I start it. Will be taking it in possibly for a rebuild. |
You own a ford i ve had to rebuild 4 tranies with shift kit transco, ford transmissions are weak !

No shift at all.
Recently bought a 2005 F150 XLT 4 wheel drive. Super nice truck but has one issue. It won’t go into gear. I mean the truck cranks up and when I slide the gear shifter down it won’t take no gears. From reverse down it won’t slide into gear. No noises. No bangs. Nothing in the transmission fluid. No grinding. What’s wrong with my truck. Please help.

Myself, I've got a 2005 5.4, with the same problem. With OD off, I get 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and can go 40-50 mph at 2500-3000 rpms. I took out the valve body to see if it was one of those snap rings that may have broken, but they seemed in good shape, so I did not remove the servo's. I checked all of the valves and check balls and they seemed ok as well. So I cleaned everything up, the replaced filter, and put it back together hoping that would help but with no luck. No lights on the dash, so am I looking at a mechanical issue? Thanks.
