Default Transmission Servicing

Hello all. As some of you may know from a previous thread, I'm having the engine replaced in my 2004 Fx4. The engine (a 5.4L 3V Triton) had 260k miles on it and the timing chain guide broke so I've decided to replace it with a remanufactured engine. I had the transmission rebuilt at around 185k miles. My question is, should I have the rebuilt transmission serviced (fluid/filter change, etc..)? How long does a rebuilt transmission typically last? The mechanic does the work for me says he does not services rebuilt transmissions with over 50k miles on them. He says that is the transmission is not causing any problems, he would not do a fluid change. He says that he has seen transmissions fail after servicing them while they did not present any problems prior to the service.
