transmission problems.
Hey everybody so I was talkin to my buddy that I was going on a long road trip soon and he told me to watch out at 92,000 miles that F150s have transmission problems. Is this true? Cause i'm about to reach that 92,000 mile mark and i'm pretty worried that i'll have to shell out about 5,000 big bucks.
All depends on how well the maintenance was performed on the truck....I'll assume you did not buy this truck new. Do you know or have the maintenance records for the truck? Did it ever have it's transmission fluid changed/flushed? Was it used for towing in its past?
There are those who have reported their transmissions going well beyond the 100K point; most have taken care of the transmissions with pan drops (5 quart fluid and filter changes), and/or complete flush (recommended). While I might agree that the automatics in the 5.4 seem to be problematic, the smaller automatic used in the the 4.2 V6 seems to be less prone to failure.

i just rolled around 300000 kms on my 04 with a 5.4 and it still shifts great
in miles i guess thats 186xxx... i bought it from the original owner and he said he just did regular maintenance

Mine died at just over 80,000 miles. I have changed the fluid @ 30 and 60K. I have towed a boat about 10 times over the last 4 years and have taken VERY good care of the truck. It's sitting in the shop right now waiting to be rebuilt (great...) under the Ford extended warranty. I am thinking that I may unload the truck before the warranty expires. I am NOT impressed with them rebuilding a tranny that had metal shavings. It breaks my heart...my last truck was a Ranger that had almost 300K miles on it...in it's life: 2 batteries, brakes once, clutch once and THAT'S IT! The F150 broke my heart...
