Default Transmission issues

I have a 2005 ford f150 xl triton 4.6L 4x4 when i put it in drive (D) its just revs up like its In neutral but when i put it in 1st gear i have to rev it up to 5,000 rpms then it will kick in gear and i can drive then i can put it in drive(D) like ur supposed to and it will shift perfectly no slipping or nothing i can start the truck and put it in reverse and it works no problem any help what could this be!!!

My GUESS

Stuck (then frees) check ball in valve body. This can happen when the check ***** diameter is smaller than designed do to wear during operation causing its stick in its seat.

Right, if it is not low on fluid or the filter seal leaking, you need a overhaul or something like the above repair
Hard lip seals might be causing the delayed engagement

I had weird trans issues for a year before mine finally blew. It would start with hard shifts. Then it would slip really bad going into D but intermittently. Was drivable like yours for a year but then one morning I went out, shifted to D, hit the gas and a huge clunk and the trans was free wheeling.

towed to trans shop, they said the planetary gear exploded and needed a new tranny….

also I asked them about repairs but they told me for the cost of a rebuilt trans the labor to do a rebuild is not worth it. Believe I paid $2500 for mine?
