Default transmission fluid flush

Have an 06 5.4 with almost 57k miles. Should I change the transmission fluid? I have had it since 42k and have towed, but only about 1000 miles or so. Have heard Ford says the fluid is good till 100k and others say change every 30k. I highly doubt it was changed before I owned the truck and I haven't yet. Let me know if u think I should. Read some threads where people say, if it hasn't been changed every 30k, it may accelerate issues when u change it, which just doesn't make sense. Thinking about changing it soon, and just want to make sure its the right thing to do.
Thanks

Mine was done at 60k and will be done at 120k. The fluid breaks down over time same as oil does. change it, and have it flushed. A new tranny at autozone or oreilly's is 1700$...........

Will be doing mine at 65K.. Heard of the transmission issues associated with changing fluid. Basically when you put clean fluid in a remove metal deposits and sludge you magnify problems so i've heard.. Its a chance i have to take since i'm switching to royal purple
