Default Transmission Failure?

I was driving down the highway about 40-50 mph, hit a hill and the truck tried to shift down to 3rd, ended up revving like it was in neutral. I took my foot off the gas and the whole truck jolted into 2nd. I definitely still have 1st and 2nd gear, but I don't know if I also have 4th and OD. Truck has 199k. Would a rebuild be more beneficial in this situation or should I just cut my losses and go for a reman tranny?

when my 05 blew up the torque converter i had the jolt when shifting, still had all the gears though. i went with rebuild. was like $2200 with 24k/2 years warranty. was done by leons transmission in so cal. still ran smooth when i sold him for the new truck about 25k miles later.

I had a 06 that when I had passed someone it downshifted, when it went back to overdrive I had neutral. After some research and found that either snap ring broke holding the servo or the E clip on the servo rod, I pulled it apart and the snap ring broke and fell into the valve body (just the end of snap ring) and locked out overdrive. Bought and replaced snap ring all was good fixed it myself for around 100.00. It may be worth a look as most places will want to replace the trans, even the dealership parts guy fought with me on wasting my time. The hardest part is compressing the servo spring, I made my own tool for that job. Before you start make sure you have 1st,2nd,and 3rd at least I did not sure if it would affect others. Do search on here and google for more info. I added my pic of the broke end with snap ring installed you can see the one end is gone, the E clip I mentioned is in the center of servo. The end falls down and blocks a piston in valve body, to fix it was only about 2 hours, pull the pan, remove filter, remove valve body, look at servo then remove broken bits put back together.
