Default Transmission Dipstick

I have a 2004 supercrew I'm piecing back together, I bought it with the motor already out of it. My tranny is leaking fluid, and I'm seeing that could be because maybe it's overfilled.
I filled it after replacing the filter and cleaning the pan. But i noticed I have two different dipsticks. Does anyone know if your dipstick is the metal band style or the cable style. They are different lengths so I may be over filling my tranny. Thanks

I'm hoping that's what it should have. Thus making my shorter stick require me to "overfill" the pan. Thanks I know it's an odd question

I have a 04 Supercrew XLT. I just did the pan and filter yesterday. My dipstick is the original from the dealer, it is the cable one. The truck only has 26k on it.

So chances are my 2004 came with the cable dipstick too. I'm not sure what to think

I wonder what the differences are. I showed in the pics the dipsticks are different. But when I installed the motor we compared the 2004 and 2006 dipstick tubes and they were virtually identical

Im assuming I'm still over filling it. So long story is I dumped the torque converter out (only about a quart) but anyways every time I'd check the fluid after a drive it wouldn't be on the stick. So I'd add it until it was on the stick, and go for a drive, itd be off the stick again. Eventually I caught up with it and now it's been leaking since

Maybe the pan is a bit deeper/shallower then the other? If the tubes are identical then that or the placement of the tube could be the difference.

Default drop the transmission pan

See how far each dip stick comes down . figure the depth of your pan. Check with transmission shop for correct level .Some pans are different including after market pans .While you are at it put drain plug type pan in .
I like to change 5 quarts at a time. More depth adds to cooling capacity. Some pans have cooling fins. Maybe your leak is coming from dip tube entrance to transmission .
Which transmission is in the truck ,check your vin .
Compare full marks when pan off . Maybe close to same?
