Default Transmission=Dead

I posted a couple of months ago about a jerking/hesitating feeling in my truck....well that feeling got worse and worse and sure enough it turned out to be my transmission. I took it to the local dealership and they had to break down the bad news.... He said they found shavings inside and the 1st gear was nearly out. Sooooo long story short, I need a new transmission...parts and labor come out to 3,400.

Ive never had to replace a transmission so I'm not too sure if that price is overboard.
Any advice will greatly be taken into consideration.

That's way overboard. Just drop it yourself if you can, Get it rebuilt most people can do it around 1200-1700, i could see like 500 more for labor. Dropping isnt too bad just have that jack ready

Um yeah, definetly way overboard! I have had 2 transmissions rebuilt over the years and the most I paid was $1200. Always pull them myself and drop off at a reputable local shop.

For this of you all who have done this, what's the process like? Is it more of a drop in and that's it, do you have to program it? I'm going to meet with the guy at the dealership tomorrow and I wanna know more or less what the heck I'm talking about.
