Transmission Cooling Question
I have a 07 F150 Crew with tow package including a transmission cooler. When I pull my RV tranny temps can get up to around 220. I was thinking I might need a “bigger” or “upgrade” cooler.
You guys have any recommendations?
Thanks

I got an Edge programer. The trailer is 23 feet. When I get a 750# ATV in the back of the truck and hit the mountains is when I have trouble with trany temps. I also run into high temps when I pull my pop-up (Jayco Baja) with two ATV's on board (you can see that pop up on my website www.nolanoutdoors.com). You load that truck and pop-up with two ATV's and 10 days of elk hunting supplies and hit Monarch Pass and the trany temps start to climb. Last year coming back the outside temps were in the high teens and the trany temps still came close to 220.
I am hoping adding a bigger than stock cooler will do the job. If it will what size and where to get one are my next questions.
Thanks

how much do they weigh
Both trailers what are the weights of each? Aren’t 23’ trailers around 3750 – 4500 pounds dry weight and the atv’s, aren’t they around 400 lbs Could you be towing close to 6000 lbs.
What speeds and rpm are you trying to hold on the grades you pull.
I am trying to figure out if you are pulling at the max specs of the truck.
Is your trans fluid brown or burnt?
Have you beefed up your trans?
You could add a second trans cooler with some modification. Talk to a tranny shop.
I found this statement: If you already have a cooler, then either add an electric fan to it, or replace it with a cooler that has an electric fan mounted onto it. But if you insist on running two coolers, then add on a cooler with an electric fan. Attach the cooler to the line returning fluid from your factory cooler back to the transmission. That way, the second cooler will help dissipate heat before it returns to your transmission, and as a final back up measure, draw heat away with the electric fan if the fluid is still too hot after it has passed through your factory cooler. Where to mount it? Right up front behind your grill, next to your factory cooler; so that the lines are right there for you to tap into.
I also read where someone change their stock cooler with a super duty cooler and added an electric fan to it

This truck has 295-70-17 tires if that matters.
The 23 footer has a dry weight of about 4200 pounds. That ATV is about 725 (it’s a big two rider). When I am pulling this trailer and ATV I am close to 5k with out food, propane, and all the wife’s stuff. So total load is in the 5.5k range I would guess so I am getting close to max. As a side note, I plan to take my F250 diesel with this trailer and ATV to the mountains this year. The 250 handles the load so much better and gets better mileage while doing it.
The pop-up comes in at about 2300 pounds dry. Add my ATV to the truck (725) and a normal size ATV (400) to the front of the trailer, water, fuel, etc so I am pushing 5k there as well.
I normally set the cruse between 60 and 65 and let it work with OD off. When we get to the mountains I kick it off and do the best I can without hammering it. On some of the tall passes like Monarch we have been down to 20-25 mph and just easing up. Monarch pass is over 11,000 feet and has some long 6+% grades.
Fluid is normal looking to me. I have not done anything to the tranny. Before I take the 150 back elk hunting this year I plan to have the tranny serviced or if I add another cooler have it serviced then. I was also looking at the “cooler pans”. Not sure if they will do any good or not but worth looking at.

Your tires are 33.26 tall this will cut down your towing specs some also.
I think you are pulling to big of a load with your F150 even if you get the temps down.
I don't have the option of using my F250.
I would be looking into the pan mods along with the cooling. and some other way of getting my atv's to where I wanted to take them.
Me My F150 would tow the camping trailer and my SUV would tow the ATV's on a util trailer.
I would need to split the load
