Default Transmission

I have a 2007 screw with the 5.4. My transmission is starting to act up, when I put it in drive it doesn't go in gear or if I stop at a red light it comes out. I have to drop it down to 2 get it going then out it back in D. It runs fine after that. Any ideas what it could be? I now my cam phasers are bad, could something with then cause the problem?

I'm not an Automatic Transmission expert by any means but from what you have described it sounds like the PCM is having trouble actuating the clutches and bands in the transmission to set the planetary assembly in drive. Where as when you put the shifter in the 2 or 1 position I believe there is a physical linkage controlling this to allow the power to be transferred.

So if the computer controls the movement of the clutches with an electric solenoid then it could just be some bad wiring. Otherwise your transmission is likely completely worn out most commonly due to a lack of maintenance.

That's just my guess in trying to help. Anyone else who has more expertise in this area feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
