Default Transfer Case and going deep ?s...

So a buddy of mine tells me whenever you go off road and through a creek, stream, puddle etc... and the Transfer case is submerged- you need to have the fluid changed asap. He claims that water and mud can and will get into the Transfer case and ruin it... Is this even possible? I just don't see how it could be, otherwise everyone and their mother would be getting the fluid changed every weekend.....

I think he got confused with the axle housing. I mean if you submerge your T-Case definitely check the oil for water. I'm pretty sure their is a dip stick, but if you are going deep enough to submerge your T-Case you are probably getting water in the cab too lol. That's some deep *** water.
