Default Trans maintenance

Its rumoured that our transmissions are prone to early failure in some cases. With 175k on my original trans it has been weighing heavily on my mind.
What do you do to keep your tanny in tip top shape? Fluids, filters, flushes, additives?
I personally, have been using valvoline merc V and lucas transmission fix doing fluid and filter changes around every 30-40k.

Whats your maintenance program and success rate?

Did you notice a difference with the Lucas? I've been debating doing this for a while. I've dropped the pan once about 40k miles ago at 112k. I am the third owner and this was the first time the transmission was even looked at. Should I get a flush or just another filter and pan drop? I've been wanting to flush and change to Amsoil Mercon V but not sure if that would help any. Sorry i have more questions than answers lol.

Im a pretty big believer in the lucas. I like to use it in anything with more than 100k as preventative. No difference because there was nothing wrong. It did help my wifes explorer with the infamous shift flare though. I got turned on to it when I was a kid and I couldn't get stock 700r4s to hold up in my camaro. Seemed like lucas and type f were the only way to get one to last so I have been using it every since.

I wouldn't spend the money on special order synthetic fluid, but thats just me. I do plan on switching to maxlife atf soon though. Its synthetic and has seal conditioner and its only about $5 a qt

I rebuilt mine at 202000. Only thing wrong was the OD and I decided to go ahead a pull it and rebuild so I didn't have a complete failure. I did go ahead and use Amsoil Heavy Duty Tranny fluid in my tranny and transfer case. It was 160.00 for 4 gallons. Mercon V from Castrol would have been around 80.00. Just thought I would give amsoil a try since I saved a bunch pulling the transmission myself.
